How was your experience last night at the „Kuttner on Ice Show“?
I really enjoyed it, you know, different type of show then the one that i did at Postbahnhof.
In what way was it different?
I don't know i just talked more sometimes its fun to just talk more to the audience
Is it all spontaneous or do you have something in mind what you want to say?
No i mean i don't really plan it out but i mean i've been touring for like two months, you know , so there is kind of developped certain things that i kind a have been working into the shows like a cover of Purple Haze or like different kinds of things that you just kind of develops just like anything else like a song i just keep on adding to it and then i mean i always try to keep my mind open when i am palying a show so if anything occurs me dto do i can do that. You know i always try to make sure that i know that why i am singing the songs and that if i don't and then i try to make it into something different. There is nothing worse then being on stage and feeling an empty feeling like you don't know why you are doing it. I try to never have that feeling and if start to get it i just start changing it up.
So you like playing live?
Yeah, i mean i have a kind of a love-hate relationship with it. Well i mean like i was saying sometimes i just feel like a monkey and then sometimes its just really personal and i get really emotionally involved, you know, and sometimes its just really fun. Its just like silly and i just like to dance around and have a good time and like you know there are some nights the only thing i wanna do and some nights just dread it when i just think „oh i have to go on stage and do a show“ and i don't know why. But its funny because then are nights when i think i don't wanna go on and then that show will be really good when i actually do get on and i get into it. And then there are other nights when i am really psyched about to go on and all of sudden it'll become a disaster and i don't know why.
How was it last night?
Its
was just, i don't know weird kind of it was cool cause kimya came on and we
did Moldy Peaches songs and we did some Ramones song, or something, i don't
really remember cause i was really drunk i am not usually drunk like that but
its just kind of the of the tour and i just kind of having like a lot fun getting
drinking before and i didn't realise how drunk i was until i got on stage and
like saw everybody. But i don't think i blew it i mean i still remembered all
the words to the songs and i sang well but i just was probably sillier then
i was at postbahnhof cause like i didn't really drink that much before that,
those, shows.
How was it to play with Kimya again?
It was fun i mean we did that like a little bit in Brooklyn last month we did a moldy peaches show but it was fun to play guitar i used to play guitar a lot more. I don't know, i can go back and forth with guitars, sometimes i just think guitars kind of sucks a lot of times i don't like playing guitar but i did it last night.
Will there be any new stuff of Moldy Peaches following some time or is it just for fun?
Moldy Peaches was always kind of just for fun. Moldy Peaches was never supposed to be like that big of a deal it was just supposed to be...it was just songs that me and Kimya wrote during the summers when i was growing up, you know, and it actually was strange once it started to be more like a job that was kind of weird, i got out of it really quick after that.
That's like your playground, the Moldy Peaches, where you can experiment and have just fun and not taking stuff too serious?
I don't know I mean i pretty much approach my own stuff that way to its just like when you write songs with someone else, its a collaboration, you know, whereas with my songs its just write them by myself so its just you just get a different result you know its your personality and theirs mixed together. I mean its like i just really didn't wanted to do Moldy Peaches for money really i just wanted do it because i enjoy it i didn't wanted to do it for money.
And do you do „Adam Green“ for money?
No i don't think about money when i write songs
What is more fun writing the actual song or playing the song on stage?
...the only thing is I don't do Adam Green i am Adam Green you know I don't do him. I am him I find that kind of weird that you said that its like as if I am not me and I am doing a guy named me cause I am here.
No i meant it like the project like...
Its not a project its i am the guy. Its not a project its like me. I am not a project i am a person.
I am sorry for my bad formulation...
Its okay i just want you to understand it cause sometimes i feel like with all these magazines people don't understand how it works sometimes you know there is no project.
Who is your musical hero?
I don't know that i have one musical hero i mean there's people i looked up to. You know over the years. I don't know like Hank Williams, T-rex, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Billy Holiday, Chad Baker, Jacques Brel, you know, Frank Sinatra, Ska Walker, i don't know, Beck, Dual Trucks, Beat Happening, i could just go on forever anyone who just did something natural and it sounds good. You know just as long as people feel comfortable with it, you can tell when something feels too strained, you know, its like you can tell when something is like forced. Like i like the Doors they just like, its just so musical.
Is there like a song you would have like to have written? Like a song in history you really like and you would like to say „That's mine“ about it?
I mean there is song from my friends i feel that way about you know like stuff that my friend Tommy Eisener or that Diane Clock wrote or that Kimya wrote you know i just can't believe it i wish i thought to write it, you know. I don't know that happens all the time. You know but its probably the other way around too.
What are you currently listening to? More new stuff or older stuff?
Well you know its like, most of the new stuff I listen to is R'n'B music i don't really like that much of the new rock music. I like some of the new folk stuff like i was saying like folk music. But i can get into anything as long it felt right to me, it doesn't have to be anything but i listen to a lot of old music like motown music. I mean if i had to pick one kind of music that i think is the best kind of music that's ever been made i'd say it was motown because its just like the perfect kind of mixture of everything that I like about music. But i am glad you don't have to chose you know.
One last question, do you like interviews?
Yeah well its nice, I mean in some ways cause you get to learn about , I mean, Iget to learn about myself throught an interview just talking and just seeing what i say its like its a learning experience i guess but sometimes i just feel like maybe they had me do too many like i could do just like one a week maybe would be fine.
Thank you very much for this interview and taking your time.
No problem.
